In 1982 the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) announced the International Conference on Semiotics and Hispanism, celebrated the following year in Madrid, whose texts have long been among the most cited works in international Hispanic Filology. Having marked the 30th anniversary of this event, we spoke with Professor Miguel Ángel Garrido Gallardo, the conference organizer, and we asked him about the hallmarks of literary theory in Spanish, an issue which at that time was at the center of debate.
