Una de las parcelas de la sabiduría se ha atribuido tradicionalmente a la historia y, en la presentación del estado general del saber, se refería Bacon al valor de la historia de esta manera: «Una historia correcta del saber, donde se contengan las antigüedades y orígenes de los conocimientos; sus invenciones, sus tradiciones, sus florecimientos, decadencias y olvidos, con las causas y ocasiones de los mismos, y todos los demás sucesos relacionados con el saber, a lo largo de las edades del mundo, puedo afirmar con certeza que no existe».…
