This article explores the narrative dimension in the symbolic construction of national imaginaries. it therefore brings into consideration the metalinguistic aspects that make narratives in general intelligible, the structural affinity between historical and fictional narratives and the role of narrative devices in the perlocutionary power of nationalist ideologies.
