Al concluir su estudio sobre la genealogía del lenguaje cinematográfico, Noël Burch declara: «Me parece evidente que el extraordinario éxito del cine, como industria de placer y como instrumento de manipulación (o de movilización) procede precisamente de la perfecta armonización entre el sistema de representación construido entre 1895 y 1929 y las estructuras inherentes al psiquismo occidental tal y como las formulan la teoría y la práctica psicoanalíticas»; y acaba proponiendo como vía de investigación productiva el análisis de las homologías entre las estructuras arquetípicas de la fantasía y las del modo de representación institucionalizado en el cine. Hoy parece más oportuno todavía retomar estas consideraciones, puesto que la utilización de imágenes estructuradas según el lenguaje clásico del cine para manipular la conciencia pública es más evidente que nunca…
