Abstract

The author starts by considering the difficult treatment of the divorce in Spain as a consequence of the traditional constitution of this country as a Catholic denominational state. Considering these premises he stated that the publishing of the book “The divorce in Spain” written by Carmen de Burgos, (1904), was a real salutary shock; the author focuses on certain members of the Generation of 98 such as Azorin, Baroja, Unamuno who answered the opinion poll lead by the newspaper Diario Universa, and takes good profit of the situation and enhances the much difficult situation in the Spanish society –“the crisis by the end of the century”– during the very first years of the 20th century.
