This paper examines two diverse and confronted receptions of Max Weber’s thought in the Hispanic world which we have described as “conservative” and “liberal” lines of interpretation. This analytical scheme allows us to group and highlight some of the most distinguished Spanish intellectuals whose work was influenced by Max Weber’s thought. We will review the context and the particular mode in which these intellectuals assimilated the German author’s work, the meaning of their interpretations and their labour of translation. In short, we will focus on the works of some renowned Hispanic philosophers, jurists and sociologists belonging to the “first interpretative generation” at work from the 1920’s to the 1940’s.
