This article analyzes the foundation of the Junta para Ampliación de Estudios e Investigaciones Científicas (JAE) as the first modern attempt to draw and develop a scientific policy in Spain. Tha JAE had some continuity with the creation of the Spanish National Research Council after de civil war and more recently, through the present science policy.
