The work of the Spanish Armed Forces and the Culture of Defence

The world is currently experiencing a process of globalisation. The resulting political strife can lead to civil wars or new threats inconceivable in the past, such as the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers in New York in 2001 or the 2004 Madrid train bombings. International interventions have consequently taken place whenever they have been considered necessary. Therefore (always complying with the international agreements), the Spanish Armed Forces have been deployed in various territories. These forces represent the Spanish society for the first time, as they include both women and immigrants with special ties to Spain.
