Abstract

The main objectives of the paper are, in the first place, to review recent literature on Intangibles and Intellectual Capital (IC) in order to highlight current awareness and main lacunas and concerns on these issues. In the second place, main challenges to increase the usefulness of this framework for creation and diffusion of knowledge, and for policy making, are presented. Those challenges refer, basically, to the need of public, timely and homogeneous data so as to assess adequately the effects of IC management on organizations’ performance. The means to face those challenges, and the characteristics that supranational agreements to implement solutions should have, are finally suggested.
