Abstract

The importance of the catalogue as an historical-artistic recording instrument in the discursive framework of any exhibition is undeniable. For this reason, there has been an emphasis on its value as a source of information and a fundamental tool for academic research on the artistic artifact. Its printed format has transcended the barriers of time, always adapting to the communicative needs derived from each particular context. The explosion of the COVID-19 pandemic marks a turning point in this evaluative, disseminating and knowledge-creating apparatus, allowing humanist-professionals to reflect on the use of other complementary recording and/or dissemination formats. Among these are those linked to computer technologies and mixed realities, making it possible to adapt the museographic content and plot lines of what is exhibited to situations deriving from the health emergency. Based on these premises, the objective of this study is to demonstrate how the virtual makes possible the evaluative awareness −formal and aesthetic− of the intangible totality of the contemporary lighting universe that is exhibited in museums, galleries, and exhibition spaces. For this, the limitations of the traditional catalogue −edited or digitized− are analysed with the intention of proposing an alternative to comprehensive recording; it is an experiential process that, in turn, will produce a line of work in which the results derived from a conscientious investigation will end up validating the initial hypothesis.
