At the end of 2019, the photographer and writer Paco Gómez found a box of photographic plates in the Rastro (flea market) in Madrid. This research analyses the process of creating a visual story through the images discovered by the author, and how this story gave rise to the novel Wattebled o el rastro de las cosas, creating an exercise in photography expanded towards literature. The mentioned creative process starts from the idea of producing a narration between these images and their history through a journey into the past as an exercise in historical memory, which allows reconstruction of a family biography, built from a strategy of temporal connections or heterochronies that offer a meaning and response to the images found. Starting from these approaches, this article exposes the role played by nomadic or dispossessed images and their revitalization as an instrument for the reconstruction of nostalgia and a reunion with the past. That is to say, the qualities that allow anonymous photographs to be offered as objects bearing historical redefinition.
