Los Peligros de Madrid portrays in detail the habits and customs of a swathe of Spanish society in the 19th century. Urban Madrid is beset with a series of hazards making it impossible for its inhabitants to walk the streets in safety. The Semanario Pintoresco Español satirises the incivility of the residents of 19th century Madrid with a series of etchings illustrating breaches of urban logic, acts of vulgarity and bad taste. The etchings illustrate in minute detail the hazards facing pedestrians in the streets of urban Madrid in the mid-19th century.
