El término «proteoma» se utilizó por primera vez en 1995 para describir las proteínas codificadas por un genoma. De forma involuntaria el proteoma se ha ido transformando en «proteomica», un conjunto de técnicas al que se ha elevado al rango de disciplina científica. ¿Qué es la proteomica? En esencia es el estudio, a gran escala, de la composición y propiedades de las proteínas que integran un sistema biológico. Su ejecución práctica se basa fundamentalmente en dos pilares. En primer lugar la separación de las mezclas complejas de proteínas, proceso que habitualmente se lleva a cabo mediante electroforesis bidimensional y en segundo lugar la identificación de las proteínas separadas para lo que actualmente se recurre a la espectrometría de masas.…
