Music & Politics is a monographic issue that has at its origin the increasing need to understand how musical phenomena have interacted historically with a variety of political situations. This socio-cultural relationship has manifested itself historically, both in the capability of musical phenomena to support or represent relevant social movements –political cultures–, and in the historiography of the numerous policies subsequently developed by all kind of institutions concerning music –cultural policies–. The articles collected here illustrate a few examples of the ways in which political ideas have been popularly expressed through music, as well as some institutional regulations created to control these expressions.
